systems medicineでの課題の一つは分子をほぼ、単体の分子レベルでの計測できるようにすることである。

これとは別に（自然のまたは人工の）多数の生物プロセスのマーカーを同時に計測することも難題である。

まさにここで、ナノテクが先端にくることになる。バイオマーカーの超高感度多重検知にをめざして、現在、nanosystems biologyの連合で現在研究が進行中である。

多くのナノ素材が特有の工学的、フォトン的、プラズマ的要素を保有しており、これはいくつかの方法で検知が行われている。

再生医療もナノテクが大きな役割を果たす分野である。傷の治癒、視力回復、その他の生体組織エンジニアリング研究が進行中である。

ただし、安全性についての懸念が払拭されたわけではない。
